Building a People-First Strategy for AI and Agentic AI Adoption in the Workplace

As AI and Agentic AI continue to reshape digital experiences—from Google’s AI-driven search to automation tools—organizations are urged to prioritize strategic adoption grounded in people, not just technology. A recent survey of over 4,000 UK workers revealed strong optimism toward AI, with 56% expecting benefits. However, 61% felt overwhelmed by the fast-paced evolution of AI tools, and 24% were unsure where to begin. The disconnect highlights the urgent need for guidance, training, and cultural alignment. 

To ensure effective use of AI, companies must define value creation, outline implementation roadmaps, and balance automation with human judgment. Clear performance indicators and stakeholder alignment are essential. Risks—from operational disruptions to reputational fallout—must be assessed upfront. Critical questions include: What processes should remain human-led? How resilient is the business to automation failure? 

  • 49% of UK workers said their employer offers no AI usage guidelines 
  • 60% of employees would use AI more if provided with adequate training 
  • Only a quarter feel they have the skills to use AI tools effectively 

Creating a transparent and inclusive culture is vital. Companies should offer dedicated AI training, enable safe exploration of tools, and encourage open dialogue around AI’s role in augmenting—rather than replacing—human work. These actions can bridge the gap between AI capabilities and user readiness. 

Moreover, successful Agentic AI deployment requires strong leadership. Executive teams must clearly communicate AI strategies, align them with business goals, and lead by example. Embracing OECD principles for human-centered AI ensures ethical use, fostering trust across all levels of the organization. 

Ultimately, sustainable AI adoption stems from a top-down commitment to education, openness, and responsible innovation—ensuring AI agents enhance rather than overwhelm the modern workforce.
